Deane Nettles is a Baltimore-based sculptor who has been working in clay for 20 years and is co-founder of the Baltimore Sculpture Studio.
In this class, students will learn the basics of figure sculpture, creating a smaller-than-life sculpture using profiles, silhouettes, and measurements.
Students will have the opportunity to practice sculpting from a live model, focusing on capturing the proportions and essence of the figure in clay.
The class will be held on Sunday mornings from 10am‑1pm in our Station North studio at 405 East Oliver Street, Studio 354, Baltimore.

We are a collective of community-oriented, dedicated figure sculptors. We’ve created a space where we can sculpt in clay from live models in Baltimore’s Station North art district in a wonderful, light-filled studio with heating and air conditioning.
We have figure sculpture sessions with live models on Sunday afternoons.
We are looking for sculptors to join us as yearly, half-yearly and quarterly members. See membership benefits below.
We take part in open studio tours and there is a gallery in the building so there may be options to participate in gallery shows.

Sunday Studio Sessions
We have sculpture sessions with live models every Sunday from 2‑5pm.
Drop-in price: $45, including model fee and use of a stand. Must commit to the full model run, typically 8 sessions. Spots are limited; payment secures your spot.
You will need to bring your own tools and sculpting materials.

If you only sign up for one session, you will need to take your materials and pieces home with you; if you sign up for several sequential sessions, we can provide storage between sessions.
2025–26 Membership
Includes 24/7 access to studio, Sunday live model sessions including model fees, use of a model stand and storage space, and work posted to our website as well as a link to your personal social media, and help represent us and show your work during open studio tours.
